Hansi Flick makes a decision on Gavi before Newcastle-Barça

Hansi Flick kept his word and has included Gavi in the list of players drafted by FC Barcelona for the match against Newcastle. The 21-year-old midfielder returns five months after his injury.

However, the club clarified that he traveled to England without medical clearance. This decision responds to a strategic plan that Flick’s coaching staff has drawn up.

In principle, the idea is for Gavi to start sharing daily life with the group again. This is no minor detail because the blaugrana side will be in England for three days.

That is, if he had stayed in Barcelona, the midfielder would have missed several training sessions with the rest of his teammates.

This way, the player from Los Palacios will be one more in the group and will have the opportunity to feel the sensations prior to matchday again. However, it should be clarified that there is still some time left before his return to the field.

More than 6 months have passed
The last time Gavi saw action was in the 3-2 win against Levante, a match corresponding to matchday 2 of LaLiga. Back then, the player from Los Palacios came on in the second half in place of Marc Casadó.

When it seemed that Flick was getting a key piece back, the pain in his right knee began. After undergoing conservative treatment, the midfielder underwent arthroscopic surgery on his inner meniscus.

Six months have passed since his last match and both the midfielder and his teammates at FC Barcelona… are eagerly awaiting his return to the field.

His comeback will not only mean getting back an important player on the field, but also a very valuable piece in the locker room.

Because of his character, competitiveness, and way of experiencing soccer… Gavi is one of those footballers who bring the group together and who enjoy the affection of both his teammates and the fans.

The date of his return
For now, at FC Barcelona nobody is talking about dates for his return. Gavi will carry out different types of work to assess how he feels in different game situations and… once he is at 100%, he will once again be part of the first team.
