Liverpool’s coach declares himself an unconditional fan of Guardiola’s Barça

Liverpool’s coach, Arne Slot, made a striking reflection on the moment the Premier League is going through. In his last press conference, he went so far as to say that English soccer matches “aren’t attractive to watch”.

For the Dutchman, this is explained by “the importance that is given to so many set pieces”. A direct criticism of the playing style Arsenal have under Mikel Arteta, one of the main drivers of these plays.

Slot confesses that he doesn’t watch matches for pleasure
In that context, he made another striking statement: Slot doesn’t watch soccer matches for pleasure.

“When I watch Premier League matches I feel that they aren’t enjoyable for me”, he commented.

In that sense, he stated: “But it’s always interesting because they are very competitive and this is what makes the league great. Anyone can beat anyone, but for someone who loves watching soccer without caring who wins or who loses… only to enjoy it, I think there is a big difference now compared to 3 or 4 years ago in the Premier League”.

It was at that moment when he mentioned Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona. “I think about soccer from 10 or 15 years ago and I think about Barcelona. I waited every Sunday to watch them play”, he commented.

It is no wonder. Guardiola’s team marked an era and is pointed to by many experts… as one of the best (if not the best) in the history of soccer.

A golden era for Barça
That Barça had an idea based on possession, high pressing, and ball circulation. With that style, it dominated European soccer for many years and left a mark that is difficult to match.

In addition, that team had footballers who excelled every time they stepped onto the field, such as Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, and Sergio Busquets.

Players who not only won titles, but also raised the level of the collective game. Just as Slot said, that Barça not only competed until the final stages, but also made fans of this sport fall in love.
